Areas of Specialization

Dr. Hegazy has more than twelve years of combined academic, industrial, and research experience in construction engineering, infrastructure systems management, and digital transformation of the built environment. His work lies at the intersection of advanced engineering technologies and practical project delivery, with a focus on improving how infrastructure assets are planned, designed, constructed, and maintained across their full lifecycle.

His expertise spans Building Information Modeling (BIM), digital twins, artificial intelligence, machine learning, sustainability frameworks, and value-based decision-making, enabling data-driven solutions for complex challenges in buildings, bridges, and road transportation projects. Dr. Hegazy has contributed to the development of AI-enabled tools, predictive models, and digital platforms that support cost forecasting, structural system selection, road scanning, and performance monitoring of steel and concrete assets.

He has collaborated on multiple federally funded INDOT and FHWA projects, producing technical reports, implementation strategies, and digital standards for roadway and bridge asset management. His work integrates construction informatics, optimization techniques, and engineering economics to enhance infrastructure performance, reduce construction and maintenance risks, and support more resilient and sustainable decision-making practices within the AEC industry. He also contributes to U.S.–Egypt S&T Joint Fund proposals focused on digital twins and renewable energy infrastructure.

Dr. Hegazy’s contributions also extend to curriculum development, industry-focused research, and the integration of emerging technologies such as robotics, LiDAR-based inspection, and web-based decision support systems into construction engineering education and practice. His multidisciplinary background positions him at the forefront of transforming infrastructure delivery through smart construction technologies and innovative engineering solutions.
