Guest Speaker Presents on Confined Space Entry
Wed, 11/12/2025 - 2:20pmThe Engineering and Technology Management Department welcomed Mr. Neil Collins, CSP, President of Technical Resource Services, Inc., as a guest speaker for the ENGT 369: Construction and Industrial Safety course.
Mr. Collins delivered an insightful presentation on Confined Space Entry in Construction, focusing on hazard recognition, atmospheric testing, and safe entry procedures essential to protecting workers in high-risk environments. Drawing from decades of field experience, he shared practical examples that connected classroom learning to real-world jobsite applications.
A dedicated member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) – Acadiana Chapter, Mr. Collins also emphasized the importance of professional engagement and continuous learning within the safety profession. His visit coincides with the establishment of the College of Engineering’s new ASSP Student Chapter, which is officially affiliated with the Acadiana Chapter. This partnership provides students with opportunities for mentorship, networking, and participation in regional safety initiatives.
Students in the ENGT 369 Construction and Industrial Safety class gained valuable knowledge on confined space regulations, permit systems, and best practices for ensuring safe construction operations. The department extends its appreciation to Mr. Collins and the ASSP Acadiana Chapter for their continued collaboration in promoting safety education, leadership, and workforce readiness within the College of Engineering.
