The College of Engineering hosted its inaugural meeting of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Student Chapter. The student chapter is housed within the Engineering and Technology Management Department, but membership is open to students from all departments within the College of Engineering.

Mr. Damian Simoneaux, Safety Professional with Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corporation (LWCC) and member of the ASSP Acadiana Chapter, served as the guest speaker. Mr. Simoneaux presented on Artificial Intelligence in Safety, highlighting how emerging technologies are transforming safety practices and risk management in the workplace.

The ASSP Acadiana Chapter partners with the College’s student chapter by welcoming students to participate in its monthly meetings at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette, fostering professional engagement and mentorship opportunities.

The ASSP Student Chapter provides opportunities for students to expand their knowledge of safety, build professional networks, and engage with industry professionals through events, mentorship, and leadership development.
